TDOT studying I-24 to make improvements

Posted: Updated:

The Tennessee Department of Transportation is working to improve Interstate 24 throughout the state.

TDOT is working with a contractor, Atkins North America, Inc., to complete a study of I-24, which they hope will identify short and long-term solutions for improving problematic areas.

TDOT says the study will investigate "future travel demands, with emphases on managing congestion, improving safety, maximizing the potential for freight diversion, and preserving/enhancing the corridor's economic benefits."

The study area extends from the Kentucky state line to the Georgia state line, a distance of about 185 miles, including the I-24 segment located in Georgia.

The deadline for the public to respond to the survey is Thursday. They hope to have the study completed in January 2014.
