New labels for fuel efficient vehicles

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

If you are in the market for a new car, miles per gallon is probably one of the factors affecting which vehicle you purchase.

However, with more electric cars, flex fuel and hybrids, the fuel economy labels are changing.

With improved testing methods, it means drivers will see more than just city and highway numbers.

The new window stickers now estimate fuel cost for a year and environmental impact.

"We have electric cars. We have hybrid cars, and we have lean burning gasoline cars, so we needed a label that would bring all that together so consumers could make smart choices," said Bob Perciasepe of the Environmental Protection Agency.
