ASHLAND CITY, TN (WSMV) -

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has identified a man killed Wednesday night after his SUV lost control, hit a tree and burst into flames in Cheatham County.

Police said James L. Guest, 42, of Nashville, died when his Isuzu Rodeo hit the tree on Highway 12 near Krantz Court.

Investigators said Guest was driving northbound on Highway 12 when he attempted to negotiate a curve, lost control and overcorrected.

State troopers said the vehicle went off the left side of the roadway, down into a deep ditch and struck some trees.

The vehicle burst into flames and the driver was trapped inside.

Police responded to the crash around 9:30 p.m., but authorities said the wreck could've happened much earlier.

According to state troopers, the victim was not wearing a seat belt and there were signs that alcohol may have been a factor.

Blood tests were requested, police said.
