CMA Fest kicks off with parade, concerts

Posted: Updated:

Thousands of people lined the streets of downtown Nashville for a parade of stars Wednesday as the CMA Music Festival kicks off.

The procession stretched from 10th Avenue to the Cumberland River, and participants included country singers, reality stars, the Predators mascot Gnash and some of the Preds' Ice Girls.

"I'm having a good time here. A lot of nice people here. They had plenty of food and water and coffee, bananas - it's really great," said Tim Guraedy, better known as "Mountain Man" on the reality show 'Duck Dynasty.'

The first concerts of the annual event begin just after noon at the Riverfront stage.

Festival organizers are stepping up their security campaign called See Something, Say Something, which encourages everyone to be on the lookout for anything suspicious.

There will be more crowds at Bridgestone Arena for the Country Music Television awards Wednesday evening. This year's top nominees include Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Toby Keith.
