Activists want Alexander, Corker to change stance on expanded background checks

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Local gun control supporters are calling on U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker to change their stance on the bill to expand background checks on gun sales.

Retired Metro Police Commander Bob Nash, local gun owners and a local lobby group, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, will hold a news conference Wednesday at Sevier Park on the matter.

Nash retired from the force last year. He and other gun advocates are pushing for more support on the bipartisan amendment, which would prevent felons and the mentally ill from buying guns.

The amendment failed in the Senate earlier this year, but it's expected to be voted on again.
