A federal agent was arrested Saturday on drunken driving charges in Rutherford County, according to the Murfreesboro Post.

Officer Julie Treadway spotted the federal agent, U.S. Marshal William Roper, driving near the municipal airport at 2 a.m. without his headlights turned on.

When she pulled him over, she said she spotted an open bottle of alcohol in Roper's car.

Roper was arrested for drunken driving, violation of the open container law and for refusing a blood alcohol test.

Murfreesboro police said Roper was unsteady on his feet and had bloodshot eyes.

After searching his car, police said they found an empty bottle of whiskey under a seat, a red Solo cup with alcohol and an empty beer bottle.

Roper is due in court July 11.
