Tea party group protests IRS outside Nashville federal building

Posted: Updated:

Dozens of protesters rallied Tuesday outside the federal building in downtown Nashville, demanding further investigation into the IRS' alleged targeting of conservative groups.

The Tea Party Patriots encouraged people to protest outside their local IRS offices across the country after the agency admitted earlier this month to targeting several conservative groups, including many with the words "tea party" in their name.

"Our founders started this country because taxes were too high. They were being unfairly imposed by a tyrannical government. Sound familiar?" said talk radio host Steve Gill at the Nashville rally.

Organizers said the IRS' recent apology just isn't enough, and they want every IRS agent involved in the scandal to be fired. Plus, they are asking Congress to consider bringing legal action against them.

Tea Party Patriots hosted dozens of similar protests across the country Tuesday.
