A Tennessee soldier on vacation in San Juan drowned while swimming on the beach, police said.
According to local newspaper El Nuevo Dia, the soldier, identified as Lee Vontay Minuet, 41, died about 1:35 p.m. Saturday.
Minuet was swimming in a body of water with three friends behind the La Concha hotel in Condado when he was swept away by strong waves, police said.
Rescue crews reached the soldier and attempted to revive him but he later died at Ashford Presbyterian Community Hospital.
San Juan Police have assigned an agent to investigate the incident, according to the paper.
