Bulger's Beat: Seniors compete in Clarksville's 50-Plus Olympics

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

When the weather warms up, it's time for Clarksville's annual 50-Plus Olympics, where competitors face off for bragging rights and medals in events like golf, bowling, badminton and even track and field.

On this day, it was all about shuffleboard, as the only mood-setting things missing from the Swan Lake Sports Complex were the lawn chairs and swimming pool.

Mack Butts looked like he was pretty good at shuffleboard, but he humbly disagrees.

"I'm not pretty or good. We play once a year and we count on having lots of fun," he said.

Margaret Jones brings some senior sass to the board.

"Very competitive in everything I do. I've always been that way," she said.

Jones seems to set the standard, all after an early round of golf.

"So golf in the morning, shuffleboard in the afternoon and who knows what tonight will bring," she said, laughing.

The showcase in these games is less on sports, more on having fun. The theme for Sunday's closing dinner and awards ceremony at Uffelman Estates is based on the Woodstock Festival.
