An apparently troubled woman drove her SUV into Center Hill Lake Monday afternoon. There were three people inside the car: the driver, 40-year-old Nancy Randolph; her daughter, Sara Randolph; and her daughter's boyfriend, 21-year-old Houston Bussell. The two passengers made it out of the car. Randolph died.

Bussell was in the back seat of the SUV, and Sara Randolph was in the front seat.

Bussell's mother, Lisa Young, said her son noticed a change in Nancy Randolph's personality seconds before she crashed into the lake.

"He said they pulled up to the ramp, and he and Sara said, 'What are we doing here?' He said she just turned around and took her foot off the brake and hit the water," said Young.

Young talked to her son about the terrifying moments that followed after the car became submerged in about 12 feet of water.

"He said he flung his door open and was fighting the water hitting against the door to get out. He got Sara out, went back to get Nancy out, she pushed him away," said Young.

Young told Channel 4 News she is thankful her son and his girlfriend made it out.

"I'm glad he's alive, I thank God he is. I hurt for the Randolph family, I'm praying for them. I'm glad my baby is OK," said Young.

Dekalb County deputies arrived on the scene in minutes. A deputy and two detectives jumped into the cold water to try to save Nancy Randolph, but it was too late - she died at the scene.
