NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

An IHOP employee in Antioch is accused of running over a customer with a car and robbing him.

Kenneth Hale Jr., 30, is charged with attempted criminal homicide and robbery for using a vehicle to run over a man he argued with at the restaurant on Target Drive.

The victim and his friend were leaving the restaurant at 6:30 a.m. when Hale, an IHOP employee, confronted the men about whether or not they had paid their bill.

They argued in the parking lot before the victim and his friend drove away.

Police said Hale got into a car and followed the men to a parking lot at the Chimney Top Apartments.

"They were getting louder and louder, screaming and cussing at each other," said Joe, a witness who didn't want his identity revealed.

The argument continued and Hale is accused of punching the victim in the head, causing him to fall to the ground unconscious.

The victim's friend ran away.

Hale then allegedly kicked the victim in the head before getting into the victim's car.

According to witnesses, Hale used the victim's car to run over the victim twice before driving off.

"He backed up, ran over him again. He hit the guy full force this time," Joe said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition. The victim's car was recovered a short time later on Mountain High Drive.

Hale, who has convictions in Illinois for possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated battery, surrendered himself this afternoon at the South Precinct.

He is being held on $200,000 bond.
