Although Cinco de Mayo fell on a weekend this year, the children at Liberty Elementary School in Franklin had their salute to it Friday.
The celebration included a few special performances, and one of the parents taught the students Mexican folk dances to perform in front of their classmates.
"It's important that kids learn more about the world around them. Our kids are learning Spanish, and when they leave our fourth grade, they speak Spanish as well as some of those in high school," said Liberty Spanish teacher Pam Volk.
Liberty Elementary has had a Spanish language program for the past 12 years.
