Shelbyville police chase zooms through neighborhoods, Taco Bell

Posted: Updated:

Shelbyville police wanted to write a man a ticket for driving too fast, but they ended up chasing him through yards and even a fast food drive-thru.

Bobby Merrell is accused of driving a Nissan Altima through neighborhoods at speeds that at times topped 90 mph.

In dashcam video of the high-speed pursuit, Merrell's vehicle narrowly misses two other cars and even plows through the lawn of a Taco Bell.

Eventually, the runaway driver and his girlfriend crashed into a ditch, and police said it was fortunate no one was seriously hurt.

"I have to give it to the citizens of Shelbyville for the awareness and knowing what was going on to stop and get out of the way," said Shelbyville police Deputy Rod Stacy.

Police say Merrell was driving on a revoked license and now faces a long list of other charges, including reckless driving and evading arrest.

His girlfriend, Ashely Beech, was also in the car. Officers charged her for helping him get away with a crime.
