Truck on fire at 7:15 a.m. Monday
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A truck carrying 40,000 pounds of frozen poultry caught fire on Interstate 40 eastbound Monday morning.
The fire was reported near American Road, mile marker 202, at 7:10 a.m.
The driver, Jonethan Thompson, said he was driving from Memphis to South Carolina when he heard a popping noise. He then noticed smoke coming from his truck and pulled over in the emergency lane, got out and called 911.
Thompson said within a few minutes the fire engulfed the rear end of his truck. He said the company's mechanics have been working on the truck's brake problems for a while but gave him the all clear to drive the vehicle.
At 10 a.m., all lanes were finally open.
The driver said the truck was carrying chicken, but the Tennessee Department of Transportation said it was turkey.
