NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Widespread power outages were reported across Middle TN and southern KY within two days.

On Saturday afternoon, during the height of the outage in the Tri-County Electric service area, about 14,000 customers were reported without power, according to Tri-County's website.

The hardest hit areas were Clay County and Monroe and Metcalfe counties in Kentucky.

The electricity was restored within about an hour.

On Sunday morning at about 8:30 a.m., several viewers from Robertson, Cheatham and Montgomery Counties contacted Channel 4 about a power outage at their homes.

The Cumberland Electric website showed a widespread outage with several thousand customers in the dark for at least an hour, and then power was restored.

Around 2:30 p.m., another outage involving several hundred customers was reported in the Joelton - Coopertown area.

A spokesman for the Tennessee Valley Authority said Saturday's incident did not involve any TVA equipment issues.

As far as Sunday morning's outage, TVA officials said they were still working to identify the cause but believed a transformer bank in the Springfield area may be a factor.

Tri-County Electric officials said Saturday's outage has been pinpointed to a substation in Summer Shade, KY. Officials said an insulator which had a crack in it, disintegrated and shorted, triggering the outage. Crews believe the rain could have been a factor in the disintegration.
