Two accused drug dealers swallowed nearly $5,000 worth of heroin, according to Franklin police.
After receiving a tip, officer were conducting surveillance at 9:50 a.m. Monday when they saw two men acting suspiciously in the parking lot of a Cool Springs business.
Officers attempted to stop the men as they left the lot, but they did not immediately pull over.
After pulling them over at Moores and Mallory lanes, officers uncovered evidence of a drug deal and took Christian Ivan Barrios Serrano, 20, and Mauricio Chavez Angel, 32, into custody.
During an interview, investigators became concerned that the suspects may have swallowed heroin to hide it from officers trying to pull them over.
Ambulances were dispatched to police headquarters, and both suspects were transported to Williamson Medical Center.
Officers later recovered more than 50 balloons, swallowed by the suspects, containing heroin. Also recovered from the suspects was $2,300 in cash.
After they were released from the hospital, both suspects were transported to the Williamson County Jail, where they remain in custody Friday morning.
