All lanes of Interstate 65 have reopened after a fiery wreck Tuesday afternoon near mile marker 101, north of Millersville, that had the road closed for several hours.
The wreck was reported about 3 p.m. where the interstate crosses above Williamson Road.
Witnesses reported that a tractor-trailer hauling plastic silicone beads left the northbound lanes and crashed onto Williamson Road below. The truck burst into flames, and other drivers stopped to help pull the truck driver from the burning truck.
Life Flight was called to assist at the scene, and there is no word on the condition of the truck driver.
Both directions of I-65 were immediately closed but southbound lanes reopened before 5 p.m. when Tennessee Department of Transportation engineers checked the bridge and determined the structure to be safe for traffic.
The northbound lanes reopened about 8 p.m.
Williamson Road remains closed at the I-65 overpass, and officials do not have an estimate on when it will reopen.
