Police: Thief swipes $14K diamond, leaves behind fake

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg police said someone walked away with a $14,000 diamond ring and left a cubic zirconia in its place.

Police said the store manager at Diamond Couture on West Blackstock Road noticed the jewel switch on Saturday.

The manager told police the theft happened between April 10 and Friday, but the store had not yet reviewed their surveillance footage.

Police said the 1.6 carat round diamond was valued at $14,000.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.

    Police dispatch confirmed that a metro officer was injured Sunday morning while responding to a hit and run. The original crash was a hit and run that happened around 2:35 a.m. on I-40 East near Fessler's Lane.  The officer was injured around 5:45 a.m. while responding to the scene.
