A Columbia woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Franklin after police said she tried to steal more than $60 in children's clothing from Macy's and assaulted a store employee.
According to Franklin Police Department spokesman Eric Johnson, Karen Fox, 35, concealed several clothing items in a shopping bag.
Store security officers confronted Fox in the parking lot, where she dropped the bag and assaulted a store employee as she fled to her parked car, police said.
A nearby officer on patrol spotted Fox's vehicle, stopped and arrested her, Johnson said.
Fox was charged with misdemeanor theft and assault.
