NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A student at a private school in Nashville was arrested Monday after guns and ammunition where found inside his vehicle, which was parked on school grounds.

Police arrested Coleman Spann, a student at Christ Presbyterian Academy.

Officers received a call from a witness who said he had received a tip that Spann had a cooler that contained alcoholic beverages in his vehicle.

Spann was confronted about the alcohol and consented to a search of his vehicle.

Behind the back seat of Spann's vehicle, police discovered an unloaded shot gun, an unloaded AR-15 and several boxes of shot gun ammunition.

The 18-year-old was arrested and later released from custody Monday evening on $3,000 bond.

Below is a statement that the school sent to parents:

Dear CPA Community,

This afternoon, based on suspicion of a violation of school policy, a search was conducted during which two weapons were found in a student vehicle. We have no reason to believe there was any imminent danger to anyone on our campus. However, as required by state law, the administration contacted Metro Nashville Police and cooperated fully as they handled the situation. We wanted you to be aware of this before you heard it from other sources, and to assure you that the Academy takes seriously our commitment to the safety and well-being of our CPA students, faculty, families and visitors to our campus.

Thank you,
CPA Leadership
