MILLERSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A family in Millersville is thankful a neighbor pulled their loved one from their burning home Saturday afternoon.

Jean Medley said she was painting in her home on Cartwright Parkway when she smelled smoke and thought something at her house was on fire. When Medley went outside on her deck, she said she saw her neighbor's house was in flames.

"I grabbed my phone and ran over there and got the man inside, woke him up and got him and the dog out of the house," Medley said.

Firefighters said the fire had been burning awhile before they got to it, and they asked for help from surrounding departments to get it under control.

Thomas King, Millersville fire chief, said one firefighter was injured while battling the fire but was released from the hospital and resting at home with bumps and bruises.

As for the cause of the fire, neighbors said it may have been an unattended cigarette, but the final determination has yet to be made.

The home suffered extensive damage with the roof partially collapsed.
