Metro Police say it appears that a clerk armed with a knife during a fight with two unruly customers, was just defending himself.
It happened just after 11 p.m. at a Shell station on Gallatin Pike in Madison.
Police said two men walked into the store and tried to buy beer, but the clerk refused because they were already intoxicated.
The customers started arguing with the clerk and things turned physical, officers said.
Police said one of the men punched the clerk in the face and police said the clerk stabbed one of the men. Investigators said it appeared one of the customers was the primary aggressor while the clerk was considered to be the victim.
The man was transported to Skyline Medical Center with injuries which were not life-threatening, police said.
Police have not made any arrests, and expect to check with the district attorney's office about the case.
