4th Brigade cases colors for Afghan deployment

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) - Fort Campbell's 4th Brigade Combat Team, whose lineage dates back 70 years to the Army's original parachute infantry units, has cased its colors in a ceremony signifying its coming departure for Afghanistan.

The brigade under the 101st Airborne Division held its ceremony Thursday at the installation on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line. The Leaf-Chronicle reports (http://leafne.ws/16SzISN ) that the brigade also honored two Purple Heart Medal recipients and recognized distinguished and honorary members of the regiment.

The brigade draws its lineage back to the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment that was activated in 1942 and their wartime accomplishments became the subject of a book by historian Stephen Ambrose.

The brigade will be deploying for nine months to Afghanistan to help in the drawing down of international forces.
