A former Middle Tennessee State University professor is set receive one of the nation's highest honors.
Muhammad Yunus will be presented with the Congressional Gold Medal in Washington next week to recognize his efforts in fighting global poverty.
Yunus was an assistant professor of economics at MTSU from 1969 to 1972 and has developed the concepts of micro-credit and microfinance to help entrepreneurs who are too poor to qualify for traditional bank loans.
This isn't the first major recognition for Yunus in his career. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.
