LAWRENCEBURG, TN (WSMV) -

A head-on wreck injured three people, including a child, Tuesday afternoon in Lawrence County.

According to police, a 45-year-old man was driving a Ford Taurus southbound along Highway 43 near Dunn Road in Lawrenceburg when the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Chrysler minivan, driven by a 68-year-old woman. It happened about 1 p.m.

Both drivers, along with a 2-year-old boy riding in the Taurus, were transported by medical helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police said the driver of the Taurus sustained life-threatening injuries. The driver of the minivan had serious injuries but is expected to survive, and the child was not seriously hurt.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the man's vehicle to cross the median.
