Severe threat over as storms exit Middle TN

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV-AP) -

Middle Tennessee is no longer under the threat for severe weather Thursday, as a line of storms producing locally heavy rain and strong winds continues to push eastward.

Severe thunderstorm watches and tornado watches expired at 7 p.m., and no other active advisories have been posted by the National Weather Service.

Many areas of Middle Tennessee picked up at least 1" of rain, with more than 2" falling across Nashville.

Metro's Office of Emergency Management partially activated its emergency operations center in advance of the storm system, which spawned tornadoes in several southern states and killed at least one person in Mississippi.

There have been no reports of tornadoes in Tennessee associated with this storm system, but several counties have reported high winds and small hail.

For the first three months of this year, there have been 27 tornadoes in Tennessee with no fatalities. Last year for the same time period we also had 27 tornadoes but with 3 fatalities.

Expect high temperatures Friday and Saturday in the mid-60s with lower humidity and more comfortable pollen levels.
