NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Students from all across Tennessee will be in Nashville to compete in the state level of the 25th annual National Geographic Bee.

The competition among 100 students from schools in Tennessee will be held on Friday at the Martin Professional Development Center. The winner will go on to represent Tennessee in the national competition held May 20-22 in Washington, D.C.

The preliminary rounds start at 9:30 a.m. and the final round begins at noon.

The competition questions are prepared by the National Geographic Society and the contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject and increase public awareness about geography.

Schools with students in grades 4 through 8 are eligible to compete.
