FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (AP) -

A 58-year-old substitute teacher in suburban Detroit has been charged after authorities say he had sexual contact with a girl who was under the age of 13.

The Farmington Hills Police Department says Andrew Howell of Farmington Hills was arrested this week and charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct. Police say he was arraigned Friday in 47th District Court and bond was set at $1 million.

A message seeking comment was left Friday with a lawyer listed in court records as representing Howell. A preliminary examination is set for April 12.

The department says the charge stems from an incident that occurred with a student during school hours March 19 at a Farmington Hills school.

The department says Howell has been a substitute teacher for more than 25 years.
