Crime Stoppers: Police seek info on Family Dollar robbers

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WRCB-DT) - Wednesday, January 30th was a terrifying afternoon at the Rossville Boulevard Family Dollar store.  Two men burst inside.  "Both of these guys are armed with pistols," said Chattanooga Police Sgt. Daniel Jones.  "Both of them are very brazen. Both of them are going in and basically not scared of anything, if you will."

They were not scared of getting caught and, at 1:30 in the afternoon, not afraid of getting Family Dollar store staff and customers caught up in their violent heist.  "One of them goes to the register," explained Sgt. Jones, "couldn't get the register to open, himself, so he gets the manager over there. The manager opens the cash register for him."

Compliance is nearly always the right move when threatened by a madman with a gun.  The other bad guy stationed himself at the door to serve as a look-out.  And it is with him that we may pick up a clue to his identity.

Both appear to be black males, under 6-feet tall, but have a look at the pictures and pay particular attention to the look-out's sweatshirt.  "He must have graduated school back in 2009," said Jones, "because he's wearing a hoodie that says 'Senior 2009.'"

Who is to say if he actually graduated anything.  For all we know, he may have stolen the shirt, too.  But, it could help narrow down the field of prospective suspects.

The robber pushing the manager around hid beneath a hoodie, ball cap, and bandana.  Neither of the bad guys hid their firearms. And next time, they may use them.  "These guys are loose and we need to catch them," Jones added.  "And all it takes is just someone giving us a tip about who this guy is."

Do you know one or both of these men?  Do you have an idea what from what school that 'Senior 2009' sweatshirt came?

Call Crime Stoppers: 698-3333

There is up to a thousand dollars in reward cash waiting for the right piece of information.  As always, an officer may answer the phone, or may call you back if you leave a message, but he will never ask for your identity.
