Lincoln County Sheriff's Department investigate murder at home on L Mitchell Road.
LINCOLN COUNTY, TN (WAFF) -
Lincoln County, Tennessee Sheriff's deputies roped off a mobile home in Flintville, Tennessee on L Mitchell Road where they are investigating the murder of a person found inside.
Deputies were dispatched Monday around 1 p.m. to do a welfare check after a utility worker noticed a strong odor coming from the residence.
"I was just alerted that we needed to do a welfare check. So from that point on, I can't go into details, because to be honest with you, I don't have the information at this point and time to give it to you," said Sheriff Murray Blackwelder.
Melvin Mitchell lives a half mile away from the crime scene. He said his brother owns the land and that his nephew often stayed at the mobile home.
Mitchell said it's been about three weeks since he last saw his nephew. He said investigators believe the body had been in the home for more than two weeks.
"I don't know of anybody that would want to kill him, its just a mystery to us," said Mitchell. "And if it's not my nephew, I don't know. Someone had to have his key to lock the front door."
The body was sent to the Tennessee Medical Examiner to determine cause of death and to be identified.
The TBI and Lincoln County Sheriff's Department are looking for a 1995 Ford Ranger, red in color with a Tennessee tag: 421-SMV.
