Bulger's Beat: East Nashville businesses booming in daytime

Posted: Updated:

East Nashville is known for its many great restaurants and live music hotspots, but daytime shops there are starting to take hold, too.

Shoppers are flocking to the so-called IDEA Hatchery at the intersection of South 11th and Woodland streets, where closely arranged boutiques sell fine jewelry, contemporary art and the latest in fashion.

"It's a small store, but I haven't even reached my potential yet," said Bill Bryer, owner of Alegria.

Each store is small in space, but they make up for it with style. The goal behind the IDEA Hatchery is to help small start-ups flourish in the pedestrian-friendly Five Points neighborhood.

"I think the people of Belle Meade and west Nashville would really enjoy it over here, " said Jennifer Harvard, of Crescent Moon Jewels.
