More snow brings school closings

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

More snow fell overnight, closing and delaying some Middle Tennessee school districts on Tuesday.

The snow showers left wet roadways in many locations, but bridges and overpasses were still slick, causing a few crashes.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for areas of the Cumberland Plateau until 1 p.m.

Counties under the advisory include locations generally along and east of a line from Altamont to Sparta, Cookeville to Celina.

Areas have seen 1 to 2 inches of snowfall with higher amounts approaching 3 inches across the highest elevations of the Cumberland Plateau.

Counties in southern Middle Tennessee can expect to see only trace amounts. Flurries will persist Tuesday afternoon across the region.

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Drivers should be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
