Community support raises money for Millersville infant

Posted: Updated:

When family describe baby Andrew, the word miraculous is often used.

For all of his young life, Andrew Hagewood has been attached to machines at Vanderbilt hospital to keep him alive after a heart transplant.

Last Monday, Andrew finally came home and is living the life of a normal 13-month old child.

Sunday dozens of bikers got together for a ride to benefit Andrew to help his family defray the cost of his care.

The outpouring of help has overwhelmed Hagewood family.

"To have 50 bikers show up at the rally to benefit our son, we don't know any of them... it's just tremendous," says Andrew's father Keith Hagewood.

Andrew's grandfather says the support from people has helped the family get through the crisis.

"We just could not have made it, all the support we've had around the world... Facebook is something else. We have been contract throughout the year by many folks to help our family with the expenses," says Andrew's grandfather Chester Page.

But, besides financial and emotional support, it's another kind of support that Andrews grandfather says helped his family overcome difficult times.

"Most of all we appreciate the prayers of everyone along the way. I think that's pulled us through."
