Many buy Powerball tickets in hopes of a big win

Posted: Updated:

Millions flocked to stores in the hopes of buying the winning Powerball ticket. This week the winning ticket was worth $320 million, the sixth-biggest jackpot in Powerball history.

Venita White and some of her workers play on a regular basis, but she says this week they had more incentive to play.

"There's more money, of course," White said. "We're hoping to win like everybody else."

White says if they win, they've already talked about how they would handle it.

"We're going to call each other, we're going to get on the plane, we're going to go somewhere and figure out some strategies before we even let anybody know we've won," White said.

White says they also have a plan of what to do with all that money.

"We're not greedy, so that would be enough," White added. "That would be enough for us to split five ways and maybe we can retire, you know, just live the good life."

Down the street at another gas station, Chris Mule hoped he just bought the numbers to the good life. It's an impulse buy that could turn a big return.

"I see the sign all the time, and I always say I need to get one of those, and I never, ever buy one," Mule said. "We were driving by, and I said, 'Let's go get a ticket real quick.'"

Mule said he works hard for his dollars, but with a number like 320 million, he couldn't resist.

"So when it's over 300 million, it's worth the $2 ticket," Mule said. "In this case four (dollars), one (ticket) for me and one for my wife. That way we don't argue over the money."

Saturday's winning Powerball numbers are 29-53-52-17-31and 31. The winner has 180 days to claim to claim the prize money.
