Longtime Channel 4 anchor Dan Miller was honored Friday for his many contributions to journalism in Tennessee.

He was among six people being inducted into the first class of the Tennessee Journalism Hall of Fame, located on the Middle Tennessee State University campus.

The hall of fame has been in the works for years and will officially open at the Murphy Center.

Miller first came to Channel 4 in 1969 and was often recognized as a popular and accomplished broadcaster.

In addition to winning multiple awards for journalism and broadcasting, Miller was the first on-air personality to win the governor's award for lifetime achievement.

He passed away in 2009 while visiting his hometown of Augusta, GA.

Other inductees included John Seigenthaler, former editor of The Tennessean and founder of the First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt University.
