St. Patrick's Day had green beer flowing throughout Nashville, but this week it's local brewed beers that are stealing the spotlight.
Nashville Craft Beer Week kicks off Monday all across town, with tastings and other events set for dozens of locations each night.
"I love beer, and I wanted to be involved in this business, so I went out and started a brewery," said Nashville brewer Ben Bredesen.
Bredesen's baby is the budding Fat Bottom Brewery in east Nashville, which he opened just seven months ago.
The suds he serves fall into the "craft brewing" category - like other local favorites Yazoo, Blackstone and Jackalope. It's a growth industry with more new brew on the way.
This week, more than 100 craft beer events take place across town, and there will be no Budweiser or Miller Lite to be found.
"You're drinking high quality products that taste different and have interesting flavor profiles - much like wine. You'll find that they give you more of an experience," said Matt Leff, with Nashville Craft Beer Week.
This is not merely a drinking festival. Food is in the plan, too, with chefs creating supper recipes to complement the beers. The hope for organizers is you already know who makes your food, so why not know who makes your beer?
"Whether they go to a Tap Takeover or a Pint Night or a Beer Dinner, they're gonna meet the people that make the beer they drink, and give them an opportunity to experience and try new things. Then, hopefully, they go home and say, 'I'm gonna go out and buy a better beer,'" Leff said.
We should note Ben Bredesen is the son of former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen. Ben Bredesen said he hopes one day his brewery is so successful that people who see his dad will ask, 'Aren't you Ben Bredesen's father?'
