The National Weather Service has confirmed at least four tornadoes touched down Monday morning in Middle Tennessee.
NWS officials say an EF-0 tornado with peak winds at 85 mph damaged a house on Sledge Road in Christiana, TN, as well as a barn along Plainview Road.
Other damage was reported along Epps Mill and Wayside roads, and several trees were downed across Rutherford County.
NWS said this tornado also damaged several outbuildings and knocked down approximately 100 trees about 10 miles southeast of Murfreesboro.
The tornado crossed Interstate 24 near exit 89, officials said.
A NWS storm survey confirmed another pair of EF0 tornadoes - one in eastern Maury County and the other in northwestern Bedford County.
Lightning struck a home under construction along Craythorne Drive in Murfreesboro about 1:15 p.m. Firefighters reported the strike did not ignite a fire, rather it caused electrical damage and some structural damage to the home.
Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold reported minor to moderate damage to about 10 homes, a barn and dozens of trees were uprooted. One family suffered minor injuries but refused transportation to a hospital, Arnold said.
Tornado damage in Houston, Dickson Co.
NWS said an EF1 tornado struck extreme eastern Houston County and western Dickson County.
Damage was reported in Vanleer, TN, along Hill Road in Dickson County, where a roof blew off a mobile home around 7:50 a.m.
Trees were also down along Halliburton and Cedar Creek roads. Another mobile home was also possibly damaged in this area.
Flooding at school in Maury Co.
Whitthorne Middle School in Maury County is letting out students at 1 p.m. after a damaged gutter caused water to run down the walls, flooding several classrooms. All other schools in the county will dismiss at their regular time.
Lighting hits home, schools
Lightning struck Fairview Middle School on Cumberland Drive, causing the building to be evacuated.
Middle school students were evacuated to the high school, where they spent the rest of the day.
The lightning caused light smoke to come out of a restroom fan along with an unpleasant odor but no fire, according to the National Weather Service.
School officials said Fairview Middle School will be open as normal Tuesday.
Lightning also struck a fire alarm in the Lawrence County High School vocational building, said a secretary at the school.
Bells at the school were not working, but there was no other damage.
Lawrence County High School will be open as normal Tuesday.
