NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A 10-month-old baby has died after being accidentally shot at an extended stay hotel.

Police said the child, Adam Bass, suffered a gunshot wound to his chest at 6:40 p.m.

The preliminary investigation showed Adam's father, Larry Bass, 30, was handling his semi-automatic weapon inside the family's room at Extended Stay America on Elm Hill Pike when it discharged. Also present at the time were Larry Bass' wife Jacquelin, 28, and their two other sons, who are ages 3 and 2.

Two Hermitage Precinct detectives were very close to the motel when the call went out at 6:42 p.m. They were on the scene within approximately three minutes and administered CPR in an effort to save the child.  Adam died at the scene.

According to police, the family is from Texas. Larry Bass is an iron worker who has been doing work at the Music City Center site.

Police are still investigating the incident.
