A spot famous for its slow-cooked barbeque has been hit by some quick crooks. Police say a hog smoker valued at $9,000 was swiped from the parking lot at Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint on Nolensville Road last Friday.
Police say two men in a white Chevy stepside truck smashed the lock off the smoker with a hammer, hooked it to their truck and took off down Nolensville Road.
"Really, to me, it's desperate. It's desperate or stupid," said restaurant owner Pat Martin. "It definitely ticks you off. You don't know whether to be Christian about it, or break off and be the other way, you know what I mean?"
Investigators add the truck and smoker were spotted again Saturday morning in Cool Springs. A witness rolled down the window and shouted that the smoker was stolen, but the crooks took off yet again - this time through a red light.
Regular restaurant patrons say they're banding together to try and catch the thieves.
"It's kind of irritating, because it is a small business and they are well-known and they do a great job here. The fact someone comes in and takes their stuff is kind of ridiculous," said patron TJ Smith.
Martin said he appreciates the overwhelming support of the community. Word of the smoker theft has been shared by thousands of people online.
If you have any information on the theft, call Nolensville police.
