Henry County authorities are investigating after a man allegedly shot his wife and adult daughter before killing himself Monday afternoon.

The shooting was reported at a home in the 5200 block of Foundry Hill Road, near Puryear, TN, north of Paris.

Henry County Sheriff Monte Belew said John Baxter, a man in his 70s, died. The man's wife, Virginia Baxter, and daughter, Kathryn O'Loughlin - who lived with her parents in the home - were injured.

Both Virginia Baxter and O'Loughlin were transported by medical helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment, where information on their conditions has not been released.

Belew said the couple had been going through a divorce at the time of the shooting, and law enforcement had been called to the home several times in the past.

"A verbal dispute ensued today, and they were evidently fighting over what we believe was a car title," Belew said. "And as the verbal argument ensued, it became where he fired the first shots and shot Virginia."
