MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - Adela Franco's buzzer-beating 3-pointer from the right corner rallied defending champion Christ Presbyterian Academy to a 52-49 victory over Macon County in the Class AA girls Tennessee state tournament Saturday at Middle Tennessee State University.
CPA (30-7) trailed 45-36 entering the fourth quarter, but went on an 11-0 run to take a 47-45 lead with 4:14 left. Kailyn Brooks' jumper at the four-minute mark ended Macon County's dry spell.
Lauren Thompson, the tournament MVP who finished with a game-high 20 points, scored with 3:30 left to put CPA back up 49-47, then Terra Pryor's bank shot at the 1:40 mark tied it to set the stage for Franco's final heroics.
CPA called time out with 14.1 seconds left and worked the ball around to the freshman guard, who launched the ball with about 1.5 seconds remaining. She finished with five points.
CPA also got 13 points from Roman Meredith and 12 from Faith LeGate. Macon County (30-5) was led by Kelsey Gregory and Terra Pryor with 13 points each.
Elizabeth Masengil of McMinn Central was named Class AA Miss Basketball after the game.
