Three men were arrested for starting a fire in a downtown warehouse Wednesday night.
Police said several homeless men snuck into the warehouse and started a fire about 11 p.m. to keep warm and fell asleep. When they woke up, the fire was out of control.
The men ran out. A passerby saw the fire and called it in.
Police were in the area when the fire was reported, and an officer saw three men running down an alley near the building.
Gordon Nunziato, Thadford Hornsby and Terry Simpson were arrested just as they were boarding a bus.
Police said the men smelled of smoke. Two of the men eventually admitted to starting the fire.
The men were charged with reckless burning, trespassing and public intoxication.
The warehouse was used as storage for old mattresses and furniture.
By 5:30 a.m., the fire was under control with firefighters watching for occasional hot spots.
