FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -
A routine traffic stop this week resulted in a big drug discovery for the Williamson County Sheriff's Office.
Cpl. Debbie Rogers stopped a car Monday about noon along southbound Interstate 65 near Highway 840 when her K-9 partner, Gunner, detected drugs inside the stopped vehicle.
After a search of the vehicle, 40-year-old Oakley Wendell Simpson, of Florence, AL, was arrested on a charge of manufacturing and distribution of schedule VI drugs.
Sheriff's officials said Simpson's vehicle contained four boxes full of plastic bags holding about 80 pounds of marijuana.
The drugs were valued at about $500,000, the department said in a press release.
Simpson was released Tuesday on $100,000 bond, and a hearing is set for March 14.
