Memorial service honors Mindy McCready

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Friends and family are remembering the many talents of Mindy McCready, the country star who tragically took her own life at her Arkansas home last month.

A memorial service Wednesday in Nashville was an opportunity for many in Music City to gather at the Cathedral of the Incarnation - with performances by Bekka Bramlett, Lorrie Morgan and Bryan White - and pay tribute to the woman whom many said died too soon.

McCready, 37, first rose to fame with the hit Ten Thousand Angels and had a brief but powerful music career that had a troubling end.

Morgan spoke of being on the same record label with the young star and their friendship that blossomed.

"I was just overwhelmed with the love of the people who came here. They loved her - love her - and it was a magical service for me," Morgan said.

Friends also said McCready's life was a learning lesson for people who struggle with the demons of drugs and alcohol. They say don't be afraid to ask for help, just as Mindy did, sadly, over and over.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to a trust for Mindy's young sons, Zander and Zayne. Donations are accepted to the Mindy McCready Children Trust c/o John Ammons, Edison National Bank, 13000 S. Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers, FL 33907.
