TN bill would make event ticket sales more transparent

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Ticket sales were the talk of the Legislature Tuesday as Tennessee lawmakers grapple with ways to regulate event tickets.

The so-called "Fairness in Ticketing Act" would require sellers to disclose the face value of tickets, refund policies and exactly who is selling the ticket.

Supporters argue that the big brokers, venues, artists and teams still have too much control over the tickets and can choose not to honor a ticket you paid for if you sell it or even give it away.

"Right now, we have people who make a living scooping up tickets and reselling them. Some of those are bad actors, using deception on their website. They lure people thinking that they're on an official website and charge exorbitant rates for those," said State Sen. Ken Yager, R-Harriman.

Nothing was decided Tuesday, and the Senate committee considering the bill decided to delay a vote until next week.
