BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., March 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Providence Hall is one of two schools named finalists for an outstanding school award presented by the California Educators' Hall of Fame. The other finalist is Oaks Christian in Thousand Oaks.

The schools are recognized for their impact on the students and the community, according to Darrin Parrent, president of the Hall of Fame. Criteria include overall academic excellence, teacher proficiency at drawing the best from each student, and a positive impact on the surrounding community.

"Providence Hall is honored to be named one of the finalists for this award," said David O'Neil, Head of School. "What makes a school great is not bricks and mortar; it is teachers and students. Providence Hall's success begins with our faculty, who are experienced educators, knowledgeable and passionate about their field of study, well-trained in the art of teaching, and compassionate and excited about the students they teach."

Providence Hall is a college preparatory school, serving grades 7-12, in Santa Barbara, California. Providence Hall is the pilot program for the Providence Educational Foundation, whose global commitment to students began in 2007, with the support of Activist, Humanitarian and Academy Award winner Elizabeth Taylor.  This year Providence Hall earned their first CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) title of any kind with the girls basketball team.  This is the first time any school in Santa Barbara, Goleta or Carpinteria has done so in 20 years.

The award winner will be announced June 22 at a Ventura County Educators' Hall of Fame (www.vceh.com) induction event at California Lutheran University. (According to communication with Mr. Parrent, the Ventura County Educators' Hall of Fame will be changing its name to the California Educators' Hall of Fame.)

Providence Educational Foundation serves schools in Haiti, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. To learn more about Providence Hall and to contribute to the Providence Educational Foundation, please visit www.providenceeducationalfoundation.org .
