63-year-old man killed in Baxter fire

BAXTER, TN (WSMV) -

Police in Putnam County say a 63-year-old man died Monday morning in a house fire.

The fire occurred around 7 a.m. in the 320 block of Third Avenue in Baxter, TN.

Investigators believe the fire happened when the man fell asleep while smoking in bed.

The Baxter Police Department has not released the name of the victim.

The victim's home is operated by the Cookeville Housing Authority.
