A man accused of throwing knives and threatening to set his roommate on fire is now in police custody.
Stephen Kelly, 22, of Murfreesboro, TN, was arrested Tuesday and charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, according to the Daily News Journal.
The incident started with a group of friends watching a movie last month, but ended with Kelly being accused of throwing knives and threatening to douse guests with lighter fluid and set them on fire.
It was a night AJ McCutcheon, 18, of Murfreesboro won't soon forget.
"He threw it (knife) and it went like right past my head and ended up sticking in the wall next to me," McCutcheon said.
His roommate, Kelly, accused him and his three friends of stealing his prescription medicine, wallet, and cigarettes. Kelly got so upset, according to his roommate, that he starting throwing pocket knives at them.
"He threw it at me once, but he threw it at my friends several times," McCutcheon said. "He had two knives and he was picking them up throwing them back and forth."
At one point just to prove to his roommate that his friends didn't steal his stuff, McCutcheon had them empty their pockets.
The group was watching a movie Saturday night and after it was over Kelly noticed his items missing, according to his roommate. McCutcheon said Kelly grabbed a can of lighter fluid and demanded his items or he would set them all on fire.
"He ended up throwing lighter fluid on one of my friends," he said. "He was threatening to kill everyone in the house."
Kelly eventually calmed down and the victims were able to leave the apartment unharmed. A College Grove Apartment courtesy officer, who is an off-duty policeman, arrived and called for additional backup.
McCutcheon has since moved out of the apartment and is now considering taking out a warrant on his now former roommate for assault.
We reached out to Kelly to get his side of the story, but our calls were not returned.
