NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Nashville judge says he will investigate whether the public guardian of Davidson County charged excessive fees to the elderly and disabled people she is supposed to protect.
The Tennessean is reporting that Davidson Probate Judge Randy Kennedy wrote to the Metro Council saying he will at least temporarily stop making new appointments to Public Guardian Jeenan Mills Stuart during the review.
The letter comes after a Tennessean investigation found questionable billing practices that included Stuart charging $400 to attend the funerals of some of her wards and her billing one woman nearly $1,000 to accompany her to a concert.
Stuart makes legal, medical, financial and other decisions on behalf of people who are incapacitated by mental or physical illness.
She did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
