Police investigators are asking for the public's help to track down a pair of suspects accused of robbing a local family at gunpoint.
The home invasion happened early Thursday morning at a home in Genesee County's Flushing Township. Officials say the men stole jewelry, a gun and six jars of processed marijuana.
The plants were in the home because the homeowner had a license to grow medical marijuana, and after the suspects got what they wanted, they took off, with the homeowner chasing them. During the pursuit he was shot in the arm - but now police are considering him a suspect in connection to the crime.
"Two black males entered the home through an unlocked door from the garage," said Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell. "Both males were armed with handguns, wearing bandanas covering [the] lower half of their face."
The burglars grabbed money, a long gun, lady's jewelry, the victim's cell phone and six jars of processed and unprocessed marijuana. The homeowner gave chase near the intersection of Sheridan and Calkins roads. But suddenly the burglars opened fire, shooting seven rounds at the homeowner and grazing him in the left forearm.
When police arrived to start their investigation into the home invasion, they discovered that although the homeowner has a medical marijuana card, he was growing far more plants than the law allows.
"He is allowed to have 72 plants," said Pickell. "He had 157 that we confiscated, that we seized."
Neighbors commented to TV5 that usually the area is calm and peaceful.
